Pentagon Cuts PCS Move Funding in Half by 2030

For military families, PCS Moves are a way of life. New assignments, new schools, new homes. It's a fundamental part of serving our nation. In May, a memo was released by the Pentagon revealing that funding for the PCS Moves has been cut in half. The memo directs military services to cut 50% of the money spent on PCS Moves by 2030. The services are now being directed to focus on discretionary move budgets. According to the Defense Department, 80% of PCS Moves are discretionary, meaning many relocations aren't mission critical. The overall goal of these changes, per the memo, is to reduce unnecessary moves. The hope is that by implementing these changes, families will achieve greater geographic stability, improving their quality of life. Each service branch now has 120 days to review its PCS budgets and submit a plan to cut costs.
