Celebrating 85 years of USO service to military members and their families. Before the U.S. ever fired a shot in World War II, a few charities had a big idea. Take care of the people who take care of the country. In early 1941, President Franklin Roosevelt suggested they join forces. And just like that, the U.S.O. was born. Soon, U.S.O. stops popped up in train stations, churches, even barns. Anywhere troops could grab a meal, ride home, or hear a little music. Then came the legendary U.S.O. camp shows, sending stars like Bob Hope and Marlena Dietrich straight to the front lines. From Normandy's beaches to today's airport lounges and overseas bases, the U.S.O. has spent 85 years delivering comfort, connection, and a peace of home wherever Americans serve. Happy birthday to the U.S.O.
