On the Radar: Government Shutdown Ends, Coast Guard Recruitment Soars

Hey there. Here's what's on the radar this week in military life. After 43 days, the longest government shutdown in US history has ended, with President Trump signing a funding package approved by Congress. The government is reopening, but things won't return to normal overnight. PCS moves that were on hold will start being scheduled, but you can expect some delays. As for military pay, mid-month paychecks should go out, though they might hit your account a little bit later than usual. Here's the thing, though. This funding only lasts through the end of January. That means we could be facing another government shutdown in just a few months. That's unless lawmakers pass another short-term extension or a full-year appropriations bill. In other news, the Coast Guard is absolutely crushing it when it comes to recruiting goals. They not only surpassed their 2025 target, but recorded their strongest year since 1991, bringing in over 5,200 new active duty members. In fact, things are going so well that now the Coast Guard is scouting a site for a new recruit training center. This week, we also honored those who have worn the uniform for our nation. Balfour Beatty Communities, which manages housing near Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida, recently told residents to remove outdoor holiday decorations until after Thanksgiving, as per their community guidelines.
