The U.S. Army has its eyes set on a new electric vehicle called the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV). Having the JLTV added to the line will benefit the Army greatly by allowing troops to transport equipment safely and more efficiently than ever in any conditions. It could be a complete game-changer for the military. Suggested read:It’s America’s Largest UAV: Meet the RQ-4 Global Hawk

What Is the Electric Joint Light Tactical Vehicle?

The Joint Light Tactical Vehicle is a design that supports “mobility, reliability and maintainability within weight limits to ensure tactical transport to and from the battlefield.” It’s being created to replace a portion of the service’s light tactical wheeled vehicles in addition to closing some existing gaps in the capability of their tactical vehicles. The Joint Light Tactical Vehicles will have added protection while carrying precious cargo for the U.S. Army. The Joint Light Tactical Vehicle's intention is to offer sustained mobility within a protected network for the entire range of U.S. military operations. This new electric installment to the JLTV Family of Vehicles (FOV) line is designed to travel in extreme environments and stealthy operations. It can be loaded up with anything from “plywood to military gear, or anything else to support operations in the field.” The truck itself can be configured into a pickup or a flatbed, depending on the tasks at hand. With this in mind, the truck can be modified so that it can handle carrying pretty much anything that the military needs to transport in a much more reliable way than previous solutions.

How Much Does the Army Joint Light Tactical Vehicle Cost?

The exact Joint Light Tactical Vehicle cost is a bit of a mystery, but most reports place the price between $344,000 and $399,000 per vehicle. Given the advanced capabilities of this Army vehicle, such as its efficiency and security, that price tag isn’t surprising.

Canoo’s Role in Creating the New JLTV

The Light Tactical Vehicle is the result of an agreement between Canoo, the developer of the vehicles, and the U.S. Army. Canoo is a big player in the electric vehicle game, being well-known for creating energy-sensitive transportation solutions, so it’s no surprise that they caught the Army’s attention. Their existing popular products include the Canoo electric car and Canoo electric truck, both of which helped them lay a solid foundation for creating this new Army JLTV. The U.S. Army awarded the company with a contract to develop a “purpose-built vehicle for military applications.” Thus, the Light Tactical Vehicle was born. The new installment to the line of Joint Light Tactical Vehicles has been engineered to “withstand the kinds of extreme environments experienced in military operations, and features a carbon Kevlar composite throughout for strength and light weight.” After their contact with the Army is fulfilled, Canoo electric vehicles may start looking a bit different, depending on what they learn about the potential for advanced functionality in their vehicles from working with the Armed Forces. Wherever they go from here, Canoo is on a very bright path thanks to their innovation in the defense sphere.

Electric Vehicles Are the New Wave of Efficiency

The new Light Tactical Vehicle offers promising support for the U.S. Army and is another milestone for Canoo and their technology. With the development of these vehicles, which are able to overcome any extreme environments and carry all manner of military equipment and supplies with ease, the U.S. Army has a gem on their hands. The Joint Light Tactical Vehicle is the future, the future is now, and now is when we take some action to further the efficiency of the military.
