When Veterans return home from service, many of them struggle with PTSD, military sexual trauma, traumatic injuries, and more. Founder Shari Duval noticed her Veteran son struggling with trauma after he returned from Iraq, and she set out to help him in a way that no doctors could.
She then devoted all her time and resources to training dogs to increase the quality of life for her son and Veterans everywhere, founding K9s for Warriors in 2011.

K9s for Warriors adoptable dogs are mostly made up of rescues from shelters. This gives the dogs, and the Veterans they serve, a new lease on life – a sentiment that would go on to be the title of a K9s for Warriors documentary: A New Leash on Life: The K9s for Warriors Story.
K9s for Warriors prides itself on pairing Warriors with the perfect service dog.
