NEW BILL FROM CALIFORNIA REP. DEREK TRAN WOULD COMBAT FEDERAL JOB CUTS FOR VETS

How Rep. Derek Tran Wants to Help Veterans
Rep. Derek Tran wants to fight back against all of the federal worker cuts affecting Americans. Particularly, Veterans who make up a notable portion of the federal workforce.
The bill aims at protecting Vets affected by mass firings under the Trump administration by mandating the reinstatement of those terminated without cause.
Furthermore, the bill would require federal agencies to report Veteran dismissals to Congress, providing justifications for their actions.
A Steep Hill to Climb
The bill Tran is proposing offers a bit of resistance and hope for Veterans affected by layoffs, however, it’s unlikely to pass in the Republican-controlled House.
Trump’s efforts to reshape the federal government through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, continues to face backlash but by design, the government is heavily controlled by those who agree with the President’s policies.
Tran criticized these cuts, calling them a way to disrupt federal agencies and cut jobs to save money, only to redirect those savings to tax cuts for the wealthy.
While Democrats view these actions as unlawful power grabs, Tran seeks bipartisan support, emphasizing the bill’s focus on protecting Veterans, not on party lines.
“Kicked to the Curb”
It’s still unclear just how many people have been affected by federal layoffs, the numbers are starting to pile up.
Around 6,000 Veterans have been fired so far, as a part of the nearly 40,000 federal jobs lost due to DOGE.
“They sacrificed so much to protect our country, to defend our freedom. Now they’ve been kicked to the curb,” said Tran.
Who Is Derek Tran?
Derek Tran is a lot of things, including an Army Veteran, consumer rights attorney, city commissioner, and small business owner, and is now serving the people of California as the Democratic Representative for the state's 45th Congressional district.
Born the son of Vietnamese immigrants who fled the Vietnam War, Tran’s dedication to public service stems from the support his family received from federal and state programs.
This gratitude is exactly what inspired Tran to become a Soldier and serve his nation. Even if his proposal ends up dying out, it's still a notable stance being taken for federal workers, Vets, and the nation as a whole.
Reform is an interesting idea but how you go about things also matters. Derek Tran and others fighting back against controversial cuts are a reminder that if the goal is to help our nation, we can't neglect the impact on the citizens of our country in the process.
