Donald Trump has officially selected his running mate, announcing JD Vance as his VP pick on his Truth Social platform stating, “After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio.” That’s right, JD Vance has just been named Donald Trump’s running mate, putting an end to the months of buildup and anticipation. If Trump is elected, Vance will become one of the youngest vice presidents in history, being that he is just 39 years old. Vance is a former venture capitalist and is the author of the bestselling memoir, Hillbilly Elegy. Vance is from Ohio, which was once a battleground state that Trump won in the 2016 and 2020 elections. JD Vance’s Connection to the Marine Corps

While in the Marines, he served in Iraq as a combat correspondent in the Iraq War. He was assigned to the Public Affairs section of the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. After serving in the military, he went on to attend Ohio State University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and philosophy. He then went on to attend law school, where he became an editor of the Yale Law Journal. It was this experience that launched him into a successful political career.JD Vance eventually wrote a bestselling memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, about his experience growing up in Appalachian culture. It further detailed his Marine Corps service, and how he curated a political career after studying at Yale Law School. In his book, Hillbilly Elegy, Vance recalls lessons learned from his experience in the Marines stating, “ It was the Marine Corps that first gave me an opportunity to truly fail, made me take that opportunity, and then, when I did fail, gave me another chance anyway. When you work in public affairs, the most senior marines serve as liaisons with the press. The press is the holy grail of Marine Corps public affairs: the biggest audience and the highest stakes.”His experience in the Marine Corps truly shaped who he is today as a politician. In his memoir he went on to explain in detail how his military service shaped his personality, and how he will approach the job of VP should he and presidential nominee, Donald Trump, be elected. JD Vance explained, “The experience taught me a valuable lesson: that I could do it. I could work twenty-hour days when I had to. I could speak clearly and confidently with TV cameras shoved in my face. I could stand in a room with majors, colonels, and generals and hold my own. I could do a captain’s job even when I feared I couldn’t.”

JD Vance Plans to Aid Veterans and the Working Class

JD Vance has been a supporter of the military in a number of ways, first joining a Veteran’s group at Yale as a first-year law student. As a military Veteran himself, Vance has a deep respect for our nation’s Veterans and plans to implement policies to improve the lives of Veterans across the nation. According to his campaign website, Vance plans to tackle unnecessary speeding and inflation. Additionally, he plans on boosting domestic oil and gas production, combating the drug and opioid epidemic. He also plans to work with Trump on protecting the southern border and wants to implement changes to the current immigration policy.
