Will There Be a Top Gun 3?

While it took well over three decades between the first two installments, fans of the Top Gun franchise don’t have to be quite so patient this time. Top Gun 3 is believed to be in the works. This is after several reports indicate Paramount Pictures is getting ready to take off once more. After Top Gun: Maverick received acclaim from fans and critics alike, Paramount looks to be riding high and chasing more success. However, we’re still a ways away from a Top Gun 3 release date or trailer. Despite this, the new movie seems to be coming along. This Top Gun 3 cast is expected to include the return of Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, and Glen Powell. Even director Joseph Kosinski who worked on Maverick is slated to return. Despite the news, anyone following Cruise and the interworkings of Hollywood would note that the action star just signed a deal to create with Warner Bros Discovery. A competitor of Paramount. However, the deal shouldn’t affect the Top Gun franchise. Related read: ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Reignites Interest In Real Top Gun Pilots

New Deals, Filming Rumors, and Recruiting Woes

Deals for actors with studios can make or break films. Many studios are looking to work with notable names. This is to increase the likelihood of generating hundreds of millions if not breaking the billion-dollar mark altogether. Notable franchises and movie stars like Cruise help make this a reality. Warner Bros. knows this. This is why it’s important to sign someone like Cruise on as a producer, star, etc. But the interworkings of Cruise allow him to work on other films outside of the studio. This is an important factor for a franchise coming off of several Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Original Song, Editing and Visual Effects, and winning Best Sound. Having Top Gun 3 come into reality isn’t just good news for movie studios, the military has plenty to gain as well. Following its original release in 1986, new enlistment figures rose significantly for the Navy by 8%. These days, there isn’t a branch of the American Armed Forces that can be happy with its recruitment efforts. So, any boost or successful marketing is going to be welcomed. If that means watching Maverick and the gang, all the better for fans.

Despite some close calls last go-round, the storyline, and how the events of previous titles will play out, remains a mystery.
