FASTEST-GROWING JOB SECTORS FOR VETERANS IN 2025
Life after the military looks different for everyone; however, through military service or civilian life, bills keep coming and employment is vital. Fortunately, there are several financially beneficial jobs in exciting industries that Veterans can apply for. If you're looking to start a career after the military, you have a multitude of industries you can choose from, but below, we’re looking at three of the fastest-growing jobs that are projecting great growth throughout 2025.
What are the Fastest Growing Job Sectors?
Transferring your military experience into civilian employment isn’t always the easiest; however, there are several career tracks and industries that have plenty of overlap.
Here are the industries with the fastest-growing jobs to keep an eye on in 2025:
Information Technology (IT)
Even as information technology jobs slow, there are still ample opportunities available, especially, when compared to other industries.
IT is evolving. While our nation is enjoying many new, exciting advancements, there are also several security risks emerging.
Nobody understands these risks more than Veterans who have been tasked with protecting our nation’s cybersecurity when serving, and the result of these risks is pushing some of the fastest-growing tech jobs in 2025.
Software developers, database architects, database administrators, and more, all have high-security implications, demand, and direct overlap with roles found in the Navy, Coast Guard, Army, Air Force, and Space Force.
Even Marines play a vital role in gathering intel, which many IT employers find useful as civilian employees.
Data Science
Being a data scientist has been an in-demand occupation lately and, in 2025, this trend is set to continue.
Not only are mathematical skills still needed but breakthroughs with programming languages and AI are accelerating new possibilities. By doing so, companies are in need more than ever for people to fill these roles.
Many estimates show that data science doesn’t just have the fastest-growing jobs by 2025, but will account for a growth of well over 30% into the 2030s.
While many branches of the military may overlap here, officers in the Navy possess both the experience and skills looked for by employers in the civilian workforce.
Healthcare
There are about 108,000 active duty military members who work for the U.S. Department of Defense’s (DoD) healthcare system.
It takes a lot to ensure both military members and their families are taken care of around the globe, with many Sailors, Soldiers, Coast Guardsmen, Airmen, and Guardians finding a path to civilian healthcare following their service.
Some of the fastest-growing jobs in 2025 include ultrasound techs, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and health services administrators.
The DoD’s SkillBridge Program Allows Veterans to Transition Their Skill Sets
Knowing about the fastest-growing jobs is one thing but if you’re going to take advantage of these industries, it’s important to utilize the tools available for transitioning from the military into a civilian career.
The DoD SkillBridge is a government-created initiative that is available to assist troops by offering apprenticeships or internships during their final 180 days of active duty service, providing valuable work experience while they continue receiving military pay and benefits.
This program is a great way to transition from active duty into the civilian workforce and places military members among industry leaders.
By doing so, service members are provided with hands-on training, real-world job experience, and industry networking opportunities to build upon a strong foundation for long-term success.
The way SkillBridge works is that you go to the program’s platform online, seek out the list of approved training opportunities, and review companies offering partnerships and resources.
Although the opportunity is open to all military branches, the Marines receive less time in the program due to their branch’s stipulations.
Still, SkillBridge offers a wide range of opportunities in varying fields so that more warfighters can have a better opportunity to develop their skills for the civilian workforce.
If you’re looking to join, you’ll need to be on active duty, have approval from your commanding officer, and begin the process at least a year before you separate from service.
