With a new president in office, adjustments are being made as Trump’s executive orders in 2025 are reshaping policies across the United States in just a few days of being back. He signed several executive orders already, many that are related to how the current administration plans to name certain cartels as terrorists and appeal the Alien Enemies Act.

One of the most significant changes to take note of is the executive orders – as they are focused on border security and immigration, which will likely shape the role of the military at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Trump's plans to bring back the "Remain in Mexico" policy could cause confusion to many, making it known that he would declare a national emergency at the Southern border. But, why should we be concerned, and what does this mean for military policy going forward?

Stricter Law Enforcement on the Border

The precise details of the executive orders are still unknown, but the most visible aspect of Trump’s Executive Order in 2025 is the decision to deploy the U.S. military to the southern border – military personnel will now work alongside border enforcement agencies to help strengthen security.

Since the military is going to be deployed, they will likely focus on being more strict with illegal crossings and support law enforcement agencies in responding to potential threats – a move of Trump's larger strategy to control illegal immigration and enhance national security efforts.

No doubt that this is most likely to cause high potential threats from Mexican citizens, although it was not specified how the military will be used to go after the cartels.

"Keeping Families Together" Will Come to an End

Now that we have a new executive order, it’s also the end of the immigration policies by President Joe Biden – the Biden parole policies.

While the original cause for this policy was to give relief to the migrants, which was called the Keeping Families Together, - it is likely that Trump will cut this policy, and will re-implement the "Remain in Mexico" policy.

One of Trump’s Executive Orders in 2025 will put an end to the policies of the prior administration, limiting the number of migrants who can enter the country.

U.S. Immigration Law is Getting an Overhaul

Trump’s executive orders in 2025 will surely have a lasting effect on the nation's immigration system as it’s one of the key parts of his plan to overhaul U.S. immigration law, focusing on stricter vetting processes, improving enforcement at all levels of government, and reducing illegal immigration across the border.

Trump's executive orders will likely trigger legal challenges because, as many will surely argue, they undermine rights to asylum or create unnecessary barriers for individuals.

However, there are many politicians who support Trump's plan, and its aim to protect the national security. His plan will ensure that only those who meet specific legal criteria can enter the country.

A Major Shift Is Expected

As the new executive orders go into effect with Trump back in office, they will surely spark discussions among lawmakers and the general public. The implementation of Trump's executive orders in 2025, and the repeal of previous ones, have marked the start of a new Trump era.

What troops can do isn't exactly clear as of now, as it will be based on the legal authority on which they are serving. However, there are discussions about Trump using a statute to direct the military to make arrests after border crossings.
