TIMOTHY SEJBA IS LEADING STARCOM INTO THE FUTURE
Timothy Sejba has his work cut out for him, but the good news is that he has plenty of experience. Taking over for Maj. Gen. Shawn Bratton, Brig. Gen. Timothy Sejba will be STARCOM’s Commander as the U.S. Space Force (USSF) continues to grow in importance and focus. The job of the Space Training and Readiness Command is to prepare Guardians for service and set the standards for the branch. Efforts continue to face criticism as the force looks to maintain high standards against a confused public perception. Related read: Top General Calls for New Space Force Mission Statement
Timothy Sejba Takes Command of STARCOM
Timothy Sejba is now STARCOM's leader. The role will find Sejba responsible for training policy and doctrine for the entire Space Force branch. Following the previous leader, Maj. Gen. Shawn Bratton, an Air Force Officer, a ceremony at Peterson Space Force Base took place to mark the occasion. Sejba's focus is on preparing 8,600 Guardians for space warfare, emphasizing the importance of instilling a strong military culture and identity in the Space Force through training and leading by example. In February 2021, Bratton became the first Commander of STARCOM, primarily from an Air National Guard background. Under his leadership, various initiatives were developed, including establishing the Space Force's war college at Johns Hopkins University and Guardian-focused basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio, Texas. Sejba, previously the program executive officer for Space Domain Awareness and Combat Power at Los Angeles Air Force Base, now takes over the command. His role involves building on previous accomplishments while addressing new challenges and opportunities. Suggested read: Why Space Force Jobs Are Critical for a Secure Future
Sejba is Bringing Guardian Leadership Decades of Proven Success
The inception of the USSF has direct ties to the U.S. Air Force. Both branches will retain some overlap and work together as do other branches with similar skill sets and goals. This is important because even though the Guardians now have one of their own as a leader, Sejba also has an extensive history with the USAF. Serving since 1995, Timothy Sejba brings decades of experience to the table. His track record of rising through the ranks is evident as Sejba’s contributions through various conflicts helped him obtain an impressive track record of promotions. But since 2021, Sejba has been a Guardian rather than an Airman. Now, he faces a variety of important leadership decisions to help the fledgling branch continue its launch. For example, where will STARCOM even be headquartered? There are efforts to move the location to Patrick Space Force Base, an interesting development for many reasons and one possibly encouraged by Sejba, a native of Miami. Since its inception, STARCOM has called Peterson SFB in Colorado its home. But motions to move were ongoing at the time Sejba entered his new role. Now, Sejba plans to build on Bratton's work and potentially change the Space Force's basic military training program, including relocating boot camp to a separate facility.
Timothy Sejba Represents the Guardian of the Future
How the U.S. Space Force plans to police outer space is still unfolding but there are several ventures that continue to show the new space race is alive and well. Both government and private ventures continue to take off and the lines between the two can even become blurred at times. Exploring space makes sense on multiple levels but STARCOM Space Force Guardians are also defending cyberspace. A place that has been hotly contested for many decades at this point and is projected to only get more intense. Several threats to American interests are all growing in number due to the variety of devices we rely on more and more each day. Sejba has helped defend our nation through a number of technological advancements that have shaped modern society. This is what makes the appointment of Timothy Sejba so important. Not just for today but also for the future. Sejba’s leadership is exactly what Guardians need to set the tone and understand the natural evolution of responsibilities that will continue to grow over time for the USSF.
