NEWEST SPACE FORCE KOREA UNIT HIGHLIGHTS GROWING NORTH KOREA THREAT
As tensions rise, the United States and South Korea are taking notice of the North Korea threat that’s looming on the horizon. South Korea is facing a potential problem with their neighbor North Korea as military advancements are happening just a few miles away from them. The North Korea threat includes the country’s testing of nuclear ballistic missiles designed to strike lands as close as their neighbors, like South Korea and Japan, as well as nations around the world, like the United States. The U.S. recently established a new Space Force unit in South Korea to closely monitor the progress that the North Korean army is making and further establish our dominance in the world. How Serious Is the North Korea Threat?
North Korea has been testing out nuclear-capable ballistic missiles that are designed to strike the United States and our allies in South Korea and Japan. This rising North Korea threat poses a concern for countries like the United States and South Korea because, for a long time, North Korea has been trying to improve their missile system. Now, with their advances in the defense sector, the country’s stockpile of missiles and nuclear-powered weapons is growing. The new advancements in technology in the North Korean military would allow North Korean forces to be able to attack their closest neighbors and farthest rivals, alike. The growing North Korea threat would mean chaos and destruction for the world if they decided to activate their weapons. According to Lieutenant Colonel Joshua McCullion, there is an existential threat, one that we need to be prepared to defend against, be prepared to deter, and “if required – defeat.” The United States military recently opened a Space Force (USSF) unit in South Korea – the first facility of its kind in a foreign country. With this in mind, this new USSF command would most likely allow Washington to better monitor our rivals in North Korea, China, and Russia, while keeping our allies safe. After all, North Korea is a threat to many nations, not just South Korea.
What Is the Purpose of the Space Force Korea Base?
The Space Force base in South Korea would “maintain, operate, and assess related equipment.” United States space operations in South Korea will also be assisted by the USAF’s Osan Air Base. The U.S. Space Force in Korea is looking to further improve our abilities to defend our nation and provide security and peace for the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia. The command center in South Korea will work like a “field unit, while the other unit in the Indo-Pacific Command would be its headquarters.” One of the responsibilities of the U.S. Space Force Korea base is to receive, process, and analyze large amounts of data information that’s transferred by United States satellites. Because of the advancements that the United States has had in the past couple of years in pushing the boundaries to assert our dominance in space, the U.S. military is faster, better connected, and more informed about what’s happening than most other space-capable nations. However, recent reports from the Pentagon say that China and Russia have been developing technology that would allow them to interfere with American satellites when we’re in a crisis or a conflict. The new Space Force base will be looking for ways to counter this technology and monitor the countries. Jung Chang Wook, head of the Korean Defense Study Forum, said, “The launch of a space unit in South Korea was likely primarily aimed at better surveilling North Korea, followed by China and then Russia.” Another important mission of the space unit in South Korea is to focus on missile warning operations, which allow military personnel to detect the deployment of missiles in real time; it would also give a warning if a North Korean ballistic missile were to be launched.
Growing Concern Over the North Korea Threat
The growing North Korea threat is becoming more and more of a concern for nations like the United States and our allies in South Korea and Japan. The new Space Force base in South Korea will be another way for the United States military to closely monitor the military activities in North Korea and provide support and protection for South Korea and Northeast Asia. The North Korea and Space Force connection will undoubtedly play an important role in the upcoming years. Regardless of the North Korea threat, the United States military will do everything in its power to remain the dominant military force, but it will not lose sight of the potential dangers that are right under its nose.
