CHINA AND RUSSIA TEAMED UP FOR DRILLS; HERE’S WHY THAT’S BAD
China and Russia, two of the most powerful nations in the world, are undergoing military efforts together. With this recent news breaking out, the United States is on high alert for any military activity happening within Pacific waters as Chinese forces begin to deploy their own submarines and equipment in practice with the Russian military. The new military alliance between China and Russia brings much concern to many, and the United States is keeping an eye on them and everything they do. What Are China and Russia Doing?
Are Russia and China allies? Yes. Now more than ever, they’re working closely together. Recently, China and Russia made news across the globe as it was revealed that they joined together to conduct military exercises in a show of strength and cooperation. This raises concerns for the United States, as it could disrupt the competitive edge that the U.S. has against our adversaries. A group of military personnel from the Vladivostok base in Russia was deployed and participated in combined drills with Chinese warships from December 21 to December 27, 2022. During the Russia and China drills, China deployed two destroyers, a diesel submarine, and several other ships. According to the Russian Defense Ministry and CNN, Russia and China also took part in week-long maneuvers that involved firing exercises and anti-submarine drills. This poses a threat to the U.S., as our naval forces have recently positioned submarines in the area due to rising tensions in Asia. These Russian and Chinese warships took part in joint exercises on the East China Sea. The purpose? To strengthen the Naval cooperation between China and Russia and to maintain “peace and stability” within the Asian Pacific Ocean, or at least their view of it. Both countries have a substantial military force, and as time goes by and their alliance gets stronger, it raises more concerns for the U.S. and our allies.
Can China and Russia Defeat U.S.A.?
The China and Russia alliance is concerning for nations like the United States. As military ties between Russia and China become stronger, it could mean trouble for the U.S. Since the conflict between Russia and Ukraine boiled over, military ties between China and Russia have grown tremendously, as China supports Russia's invasion of Ukraine. China declared a “no limits” friendship with Russia, meaning that China has refused to point out the flaws in Russia’s military actions against Ukraine and instead blames the United States and NATO for provoking such military acts. Russia, in return, supports China in their tensions with the United States over the Taiwan acquisition dilemma. Russia and China relations have proven to be a potential threat and could progress to threaten the military dominance that the United States has on the world. If China and Russia continue their military practices together and strengthen their relations with one another, they could pose a definite threat to the United States, but this is not to say that they will completely win in a struggle. The United States, with our ever-growing military and top-of-the-line technology, will never go down without a fight. Even if there was a U.S. war with China and Russia, which is highly unlikely, their success would not be guaranteed or even likely, especially given the support the United States has from its 29 NATO allies.
NATO vs. Russia and China: Who Would Win?
China and Russia’s military alliance could potentially pose a threat to the world and the countries that side with the United States. However, the United States wouldn’t be fighting alone if Russia and China were to ever declare war on us. The United States is backed by many countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Canada, Germany, Italy, and the rest of the NATO member countries. If there was ever a conflict with China and Russia vs. NATO, both parties would suffer great damage and destruction, leading to mass casualties on all sides. Such a battle could potentially involve nukes, which would have the capability of making each side a loser in the greatest capacity. But if nukes were not deployed and this were a WWIII scenario, it’s unlikely that Russia and China, alone, could ever hope to overtake NATO. Given the combined strength of all NATO countries, it’s highly unlikely that just two countries would be able to outgun or outman them. This would make waging war against the United States, or any NATO member, a fruitless endeavor. But other potentially budding alliances could complicate the situation. Recently, Russian President Vladimir Putin landed in Belarus to speak with President Alexander Lukashenko for a meeting, and there’s been speculation that Putin may have used this opportunity to apply some pressure on Lukashenko to enhance Belarus’s cooperation with Russia, though these reports are yet unconfirmed. While a war of this magnitude is unlikely at the current time, having Putin apply pressure on neighboring countries could indicate that something is brewing on the horizon.
Keeping a Close Eye on China and Russia
The China and Russia news is concerning, but it doesn’t spell doom for anyone just yet. Yes, the ties between China and Russia are strong, but the ties between the United States and the nations within NATO are stronger and more dominant. One thing is for certain, however, and that is that the United States and the nations that support us will be ready for any military aggression coming from them.
