What Is the Purple Bag Project?
A Packages From Home, Crown Royal collaboration birthed the Purple Bag Project, which fills a Crown Royal bag with a care package and sends it to someone in the American Armed Forces. The project was formed after one mom and many of her friends decided to do something to help lift the morale of American troops overseas. Following the events of 9/11, Christian Lewis enlisted in the U.S. Army. While serving, his mother, Kathleen Lewis, would send him care packages while he was stationed in Iraq. Her son loved receiving them, as it provided a sense of home and gave him with things he needed that helped his service become a bit more bearable. Once Kathleen discovered that her son was the only one in his squad receiving heartfelt notes and important care items, she knew something needed to be done. From there, Kathleen would go on to create Packages From Home. After getting many of her friends to “adopt” members of Christian’s fellow Soldiers, soon care packages made their way overseas and paved the way for the non-profit that still exists today. Thanks to the partnership with Crown Royal, over a million American troops have received care packages through the Purple Bag Project.
