War Thunder Gaming Forums are Leaking Classified Intel (Again)

The United States has a security issue, as does its allies. There is a considerable lapse in security that continues to lead to classified documents leaked for all to see. But you won’t find this vulnerability on the dark web or a seedy part of whichever foreign country scares you the most due to underlying prejudices. No, it’s actually just the War Thunder forums available online where people get together to discuss their favorite game. Released in 2012, War Thunder, the free-to-play vehicular combat multiplayer video game, is still going strong. However, the War Thunder leaked documents list also continues growing in what is an ever-increasing and highly embarrassing fiasco for the U.S. military. Is War Thunder Crossplay?

Gaijin Entertainment’s pride and joy War Thunder doesn’t care what system you use. You can connect via crossplay on a wide variety of platforms and play with your friends, or strangers, online through the same server. Crossplay is compatible with the following:

  • Linux
  • Microsoft Windows
  • macOS
  • Oculus
  • Xbox One
  • PlayStation 4
  • Xbox Series X
  • PlayStation 5
  • Vive
  • Xbox Series S

Gamers can download the title on their respective platform’s stores, such as Steam. There is also a mobile version of the game available in the Google Play Store for Android. Now, an iOS version has finally arrived in August 2023. Originally part of a prank for April Fools, Gaijin decided to go ahead and create a flying simulation game of a similar, but different title. Since then, the cross-platform hit has been receiving many awards and accolades. However, War Thunder leaked documents are a growing concern, especially since crossplay mechanics means that a wide audience of gamers has potential access to classified intelligence. While forums don’t capture the game’s entire audience, which sees tens of thousands of players on average, they still do hold a relevant place in the gaming community. There are over 70 million players registered when you add up each platform. Therefore, you never know whose prying eyes may be lurking. The strength of the game’s forum community is the dedication to being as realistic as possible. This means that players often come up with proof to settle their arguments. In a heated debate among fellow gamers who all demand evidence before they simply believe anonymous strangers on a forum, the pressure is on to back up your claims. What better proof than classified, closed-door U.S. military manuals and information?

How Many Times Has War Thunder Leaked Documents?

It’s a bit debatable how many War Thunder leaks there have been. However, there have been at least 12 to 17 alleged incidents of the community leaking classified documents through its forum. America isn’t the only victim either. Both ally countries along with rival nations have had details slip through. The nations besides the United States include: the United Kingdom, France, and China. One of the latest instances to make the news involves detailed information about the F-117. The information was still leaked from the F-117 Nighthawk’s flight manual despite moderators deleting and banning the user responsible. The F-117 is a subsonic twin-engine stealth attack aircraft from Lockheed Martin serving from 1983 to 2008. The War Thunder leak brought to light F-117 specs about its engine, sensors, and weapons. However, if the aircraft was retired, should it really be such a big deal? Well, it depends. Some have reported that that the aircraft has been seen in Nevada and over California. There have even been rumors that the US deployed 4 ‘retired’ F-117 Nighthawks to Syria and Iraq in 2017. All of these could raise questions and provide answers as to why the War Thunder classified documents leak is so critical. The military could still secretly be using the aircraft for a variety of reasons, including research and even operations. Additional Content Forums Leaked

Whether it’s leaking information about the British Challenger-2, F-15 Eagle, F-16 Fighting Falcon, tanks from France, or the sensitive information about China's tank munitions, those on the forum use evidence to state their case. Ban all you want, take the content down, or any other expected act. The Internet remains resilient, even if such problems present national security threats. This is a recurring theme not only for Gaijin Entertainment but online as a whole in 2023. Lest we forget the Discord leak. Obviously, if you’re going to be on a War Thunder forum, you may want to think twice before submitting sensitive content that could land you in serious legal trouble. Winning an Internet argument simply isn't that important. The gaming community affecting national security…these days, nothing is all too surprising, now is it?
