SUPER BOWL LX FLYOVER: A HISTORIC JOINT FORCE TRIBUTE FOR AMERICA’S 250TH
We don’t know which teams will take the field for Super Bowl LX, but one high-stakes lineup is already locked in: a historic joint-service flyover by the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy.
When millions of fans tune in on Feb. 8, 2026, they’ll witness a powerful, loud, and precision-timed formation above Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. This tribute celebrates America's 250th anniversary and will feature a mix of legacy and modern airpower.
The eight-aircraft formation will include:
- U.S. Air Force: Two B-1B Lancers from Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota, and two F-15C Eagles from the Fresno Air National Guard.
- U.S. Navy: Two F/A-18E Super Hornets and two F-35C Lightning IIs from Naval Air Station Lemoore, California.
According to the news release from Air Force Global Strike Command, the formation represents “the nation’s journey and independence,” showcasing both the history and future of American military aviation.
Though the flight is conducted by the Air Force and Navy, the Department of Defense has noted that the display is intended to symbolize the Joint Force—including the Army, Marine Corps, Space Force, and Coast Guard—working together across every domain.
A Super Bowl Tradition with Military Roots
Military flyovers are a staple of the Super Bowl pre-game experience—the tradition stretches back decades. Early NFL championship games in the Cold War era often featured bomber and fighter formations as a demonstration of technological strength and readiness.
One of the most iconic moments came after Super Bowl XXXVI in 2002, just months after the September 11 attacks, when a formation of F-15s and F-16s flew over the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans as the nation honored first responders and service members.
More Than a Game-Day Moment
Beyond the flyover itself, participating Air Force and Navy will take part in community outreach events throughout Super Bowl week.
According to the news release, these include public aircraft displays, search-and-rescue demonstrations, and even backseat flights on the F/A-18F Super Hornet with community leaders.
“As the nation celebrates Freedom 250 throughout 2026, our joint community outreach efforts throughout the week demonstrate our Joint Force’s shared history and enduring commitment to defending freedom,” the release stated.
At one of the most-watched sporting events in the world, the flyover serves as a visual reminder that 250 years after its founding, America’s military remains united, ready, and dominant.
